Podcasting with The Sociological Review Foundation

Not every research output needs to be a journal article.
Podcasting offers something different – a way to explore ideas through conversation, reach audiences far beyond academia, and bring research to life in a more human, accessible way. It’s a format that continues to grow in popularity across the sector but knowing where to start (and how to do it well) can still feel like a barrier.
The Sociological Review Foundation understand this more than most and it is why, after a successful first workshop in Nov 2025, Research Podcasts is once again partnering with them to deliver an Introduction to Podcasting workshop on Monday 18th May 2026 – designed specifically for researchers who want to explore audio as part of their work.
What to expect
This one-day online session is built to give you both the confidence and practical skills to get started. Across the day, we’ll cover:
• Developing your research into a strong podcast concept
• Recording and editing techniques for high-quality audio
• What’s involved in launching and sustaining a podcast
Alongside the core content, there’s a strong focus on discussion and interaction – giving you the chance to test ideas, learn from others, and ask the questions that matter to your work.
Your facilitators
The session will be led by Krissie Brighty-Glover, our Director of Training and Production, who has extensive experience supporting researchers and organisations to create engaging audio content.
She’ll be joined by Alice Bloch, journalist and Executive Producer of Uncommon Sense, The Sociological Review Foundation’s podcast. With a background including BBC Radio 4 and the World Service, Alice brings valuable insight into storytelling, production, and reaching wider audiences. Alice will also review why podcasting with the Sociological Review Foundation is a great idea.
Why join us?
With just 12 places available, this workshop is designed to be small, focused, and genuinely useful. It’s not about sitting back and listening – it’s about actively developing your ideas in a supportive environment.
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what makes a strong research podcast, and practical next steps you can take forward straight away.
