Research Podcasts team visit the House of Lords… twice.

The Research Podcasts team were invited to a reception and a dinner at the House of Lords to both celebrate the achievements of the Skills and Education Group and join discussions about how we can all help develop the FE sector.

In April Chris, Catherine and Krissie from the Research Podcast team headed down to London for a Skills and Education Group reception hosted by Baroness Burt of Solihull at the House of Lords followed by a dinner in June hosted by Baroness Kennedy of The Shaws KC.

It was an honour to have our team be a part of these events with guests and representatives from the education and business sector as well as Parliament.

The Skills and Education Group are a fantastic client. We’re always made to feel a part of their team. It was a privilege to celebrate their many achievements including the podcast we help them produce, in such a fantastic setting!

The reception in April kicked off with a speech from our host, the Baroness Burt of Solihull, who spoke passionately about the importance of Further Education and its capacity to change the lives of young and adult learners.

Following this was a speech by Mamello Atisa, a Skills and Education grant recipient who was a guest on a previous episode of Let’s Go Further. She discussed her journey through education in later life and how it has allowed her to live her childhood dream in fashion.

Tony Perkins, Shadow Minister for FE and Skills and MP for Chesterfield, also spoke about the importance of the FE and skills sector in improving people lives and discussed Labour’s commitment to the sector.

To round off an informative and enjoyable day, Paul Eeles (CEO of Skills and Ed) announced Baroness Morgan of Cotes as the new Ambassador for the Skills and Education Group Foundation.

The event coincided with the publishing of the Skills and Education Group Impact Report which celebrated the achievements and impact of the Group in the last academic year. Research Podcasts are proud that our collaboration on the Let’s Go Further Podcast was part of the many successes of the Group this year.

The team were then delighted to be invited back for a dinner in June attended by key stakeholders from the Further Education sector and Parliamentarians across the political spectrum. The aim of the dinner was to further develop FE and find solutions to the challenges they face. There was a lively debate and a delightful dinner where the team were able to create new connections and learn more about this thriving sector.

The team have thoroughly enjoyed their two trips to the House of Lords and hope to make a third in the near future.

The Let’s Go Further Podcast is produced by the Skills and Education Group in collaboration with Research Podcasts and is published fortnightly.
